Trump Plans to Court Black Voters with Celebrity-Led Campaign Push

In a bid to win over African American voters, former President Donald Trump is reportedly aligning with hip-hop artists and athletes, planning major events in key cities, despite the lack of a cohesive engagement strategy.

In his quest to be elected president for the second time, Donald Trump is reportedly enlisting Black hip-hop artists and celebrity athletes to assist him in winning over African American voters, reports the Associated Press.

Campaign officials said that the former president plans to make appearances with Black leaders in Atlanta, Chicago, and Detroit in an attempt to flip locales that have historically been Democratic strongholds.

In New York City, a major campaign event at Madison Square Garden featuring Black athletes and hip-hop artists is also in the works.

Although Trump would love to attract more Black voters with his proposed plan, his campaign has made few investments to back up his bold vision. According to officials from the campaign, targeted programs are still weeks away from being implemented.

While many believe that Trump can make inroads with Black voters, the former president’s numerous legal issues and staffing problems, has slowed down any real progress.

Rev. Darrell Scott, a Black clergyman and a supporter who co-founded the National Diversity Coalition for Trump in 2016, believes that the campaign is well on its way to attracting more Black voters.

EXCLUSIVE: Biden Campaign Plans Black Media Rollout To Reach Black Voters

“To be quite honest, the Republican Party does not have a cohesive engagement plan for Black communities,” Scott said. “What it has are conservatives in communities of color who have taken it upon themselves to head our own initiatives.”

On the Democratic side, the Biden campaign has invested in opening new offices in minority communities across the country and has already spent millions of dollars on ads targeting Black and Latino voters in key states.

Additionally, Vice President Kamala Harris and other prominent democratic leaders of color have been traveling the country touting their party’s accomplishments, such as historic funding for HBCUs, student loan forgiveness, and the president’s stance on civil rights policy.

Other than reportedly reaching out to celebrity athletes and hip-hop artists, the Trump campaign lacks a real strategy to recruit Black voters, according to Jasmine Harris, the director of Black media for the Biden campaign.

“Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans proudly admitting that they have no real strategy to reach Black voters because they believe all they need is rap concerts and free chicken is only surprising if you haven’t paid attention to Trump’s fraudulent relationship to Black America for years,” said Harris describing Trump as “a fraud” who “takes every opportunity available to him to demean our community.
